Volume XIV — Foreword
We are slow readers of fast pours.
The Archive began in 1894 as a leather-bound ledger kept behind the bar of a Burton public house. It has since been kept by twelve curators across four continents.
We taste blind. Three sessions, three palates, no labels. Only after the notes are sealed do we permit ourselves to know what we drank. The number on the right is therefore not an opinion — it is a record.
We believe a beer is worth remembering when it teaches the drinker something: about a place, a grain, a tradition, or a small act of stubbornness. Most beers do not make the ledger. The ones that do, stay forever.
